Introduction

The Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program is designed for students who have completed all required prerequisite and general education courses, hold a previous baccalaureate degree or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification, and seek to advance their credentials to become certified Medical Laboratory Scientists. Clinical rotations are conducted at Trinity College-approved clinical laboratory facilities under the supervision of experienced professionals in the field. Students enrolled in the distance education option may complete their clinical rotations at an approved site near their place of residence, provided the site meets program standards and receives prior approval.

The clinical schedule includes:

  • Summer Semester: 24 hours of Phlebotomy and 48 hours of Urinalysis and Body Fluids
  • Fall Semester: 96 hours of Clinical Chemistry and 96 hours of Clinical Hematology and Hemostasis
  • Spring Semester: 96 hours of Immunohematology and 96 hours of Clinical Microbiology

Students who hold current MLT certification may be eligible to receive credit for prior learning and may opt out of certain clinical rotations, subject to review and approval based on program policies and documentation of prior experience.

Pathways Options:

MLS
For students who have completed all prerequisite courses, with or without a bachelor's degree. Intended for local students who will complete clinical rotations at one of our affiliated local clinical sites.

MLS Distance
For students who have completed all prerequisite courses, with or without a bachelor's degree. Designed for non-local students who will complete clinical rotations at one of their own pre-approved affiliate clinical sites.

MLT to MLS (Bridge Program)
For students with an MLT degree and current ASCP or AMT certification who have completed all prerequisite courses. Available to both local and non-local students. Clinical rotations may be completed at either our affiliated sites or at a student's own pre-approved local site. Credit for prior clinical experience may be awarded.
